Trolltech®, the company that makes software faster to build and easier to use, today announced the general availability of Qtopia® Phone Edition. This latest version of Qtopia Phone Edition completes the launch of the Qtopia 4 Series, joining Qtopia Platform, announced today and Qtopia Core, which was made available in January 2006.
The latest version of Qtopia Phone Edition offers many new phone capabilities including multitasking and enhanced graphical features such as transparencies, watermarking and shadows. Qtopia Phone Edition now supports the HelixTM DNATM Client and includes a new security feature to protect device integrity.
Customers purchasing Qtopia will also have support for the industry leader multimedia framework - Helix DNA Client. The Helix DNA Client enables developers to build world-class media applications that support any format and any processor. To date more than 60 million mobile phones and devices have shipped that include Helix-based media applications.

Qtopia Phone Edition 4 also features an initial release of the Qtopia Safe Execution EnvironmentTM (SXE), which builds upon the inherent security features of Linux to enhance device integrity during download and execution of new applications. SXE combines the security benefits of a "sandbox" on the device with the benefits of a native application approach. It includes Linux controls on access to files and to capabilities such as network connections. SXE also manages access to device resources like SMS delivery and the display.
