Enables Parallel Use of Qt with Java and C++
Oslo, 10 July - 2007 - Trolltech has opened the popular Eclipse IDE to Qt developers with a first Release Candidate of the Qt Eclipse Integration. The integration for C++ joins the existing integration for Qt Jambi - Trolltech's rich-client application framework for Java development - to allow Qt developers to leverage the popular Eclipse IDE from their language of choice.
The Qt Eclipse integration for C++ augments the Eclipse CDT plugin with the functionality for creating and managing Qt projects. It also adds Qt Designer, a Qt development tool for visually designing and building graphical user interface (GUI) applications. Features provided by the Qt Eclipse Integration include:
* Wizards for creating new Qt projects, and importing existing Qt projects
* Graphical editor for the project files (.pro) used by the Qt cross-platform makefile generator qmake
* Integrated Qt Designer GUI layout and forms editor
* Integrated Qt resource editor
* Integrated Qt reference documentation
New Features Included in the Release Candidate
Since the technology preview release in May, significant effort has been put into general improvements to the Qt C++ integration, and two significant new features have been added to this first Release Candidate:
* Qt Designer for C++ and Qt Designer for Java, available to Java developers through Qt Jambi, have been split into totally independent parts. This allows developers to work simultaneously with both the C++ and Java versions of Qt Designer within Eclipse.
* Binary packages for the most common Linux systems are now available, easing installation. Packages are available for systems running gcc 3.3 (e.g. SuSE 9.3, Ubuntu 5, RedHat WS 4) and gcc 4 (e.g. SuSE 10, Ubuntu 6.06, Fedora Core 6).
